"what good is it
if it can't be on paper?"

I love to write, and a good amount of my writing went through the art of sports journalism. I was an Associate Editor as well as Sports Editor for the sports department of the Cavalier Daily at various points and also freelanced for TheSabre.com, the Virginia Alumni News Magazine, and the Prince William Daily Journal. While I'm not as involved in the art now nearly as much as I used to be, I managed to compile nearly 100 articles at the Cav Daily and a good amount of pocket money -- all from doing something that I love, which is watching sports. And yes, that is my front page article in the graphic on the right (thanks to the team for beating the tarholes).

Along the way, I was able to meet athletes and journalists of all types and also had the opportunity to attend and visit some astounding events and places (for free). Here is an abbreviated list of some of the people and places I've been to via sports journalism:

  • ESPN's Dick Vitale
  • FOX's Howie Long
  • NBA's Shane Battier
  • NBA's Jason Williams
  • NBA's Juan Dixon
  • Duke's Coach K
  • Maryland's Gary Williams
  • Michigan State's Tom Izzo
  • and more (basically every player/coach in the ACC)

  • ACC basketball media day - Greensboro, NC
  • 2001 Men's Basketball ACC Tournament - Atlanta, GA
  • 2001 ACC Springfest - Orlando, FL
  • Virginia basketball games - all ACC schools + more
  • various media days & press conferences

In addition to sports journalism, I have a creative writing side in me that likes to occassionally spit out stuff like poetry, stories, and short motivational phrases (this side usually comes out in large spurts). And of course there's the sciency, academic stuff like essays, lab reports, and research papers (fun fun fun).
