being
All of us are brought into the world with one simple yet daunting task: to be. What is being? What does it entail? Down to the bare minimum it is merely staying alive: sustaining health, getting nutrition, etc. For many in this world, struggling to stay alive is the definition of being. But for those of us that are fortunate enough to be blessed with good health and food on the table, being is much more. It is the journey to finding oneself and being who you are, not someone else. It is learning about yourself and taking in from all those around you. It is giving to the world using all that you have: talent, wisdom, strength, knowledge. Being is making the most of yourself and your existence, stretching yourself outward beyond your wildest dreams and, in turn, discovering the most beautiful thing of all: yourself.
loving
Love finds its way into our lives in mysterious ways, and some of us seek it out persistently. In some ways, it could be romantic love or the love for people or things. But here, it is not about loving others. It is about loving life, loving living, loving being. It is about having passion in your life, passion for anything and everything, and simply loving what you do. Passion drives us to be. As Susan Orlean alluded to in The Orchid Thief, "Passion defines our lives." Find your passions, or let them find you, for there is nothing greater than to live with passion. From Adaptation: "You are what you love, not what loves you."
saving
Part of being is the inescapable concept of time. No matter what transpires, time keeps on ticking and in only one direction: forward. We either linger on what has already passed, or we try as hard as we can to push it away and pretend that it never happened. Our memory can comfort us, or it can consume us. Yet the past is something that we can neither keep nor forget. Instead, it is something we can learn from, smile upon, and save with us through our journeys ahead. Remember the good times and the bad, and hold on to what's been said and everything that you've read and learned. Embrace, do not deny, what lies behind you. It is, after all, what has made you.
sharing
We spend much of our lives learning, creating, building, dreaming. Achieving and accomplishing are great moments in life, but what are we if we are alone in our own triumph? Proving your worth may be only for you alone, but discovering the joy of it all within yourself stems from those close to you. You can't rejoice alone; it just wasn't meant to be that way. Let others into your life. Share your life and your dreams. Maybe they will learn from you, as you have learned from others.
